Dear Parents & Guardians,

Please remember that we are having our virtual Meet the Teacher Meeting next Thursday evening.

There will be 2 sessions between 5:00 and 7:00 pm. 

You should receive an email shortly that explains how to sign up via PowerSchool.


Our Learning in class:


In LA, students chose a literary device (from our spelling list + extras) and are creating a poster to inform and teach it to their classmates.

The poster should include:

  • title
  • definition (in student friendly language)
  • multiple examples (minimum more than 3)
  • illustrations/ pictures
  • light background color

Math:

We are continuing to learn about larger numbers up to the millions place.

Student need to be comfortable in writing, reading and expressing said numbers in various forms:


Standard Form:   6 732 218

Word Form:   six million seven hundred thirty-two thousand two hundred eighteen

Expanded Form:  6 000 000 + 700 000 + 30 000 + 2 000 + 200 + 10 + 8


Social Studies:

Students are listening to our federal party leaders and their ideas / programs to prepare for the student vote. We are using the civix Canada student vote resources, should you wish to take a look.

Science:

All students have now signed up to our Google Classroom for the first time and are working on an online assignment for the Trees and Forests unit. This assignment will be completed in class as I am intending to teach how to use Google documents and Google classroom in case we have to move online once more.

  Dear Parent & Guardians, Today I will just send out a few reminders and some information about the Food Drive that our school is participating in. 1) Spelling Test on Math words tomorrow, Friday December 3rd. 2) Last day to work on the science project in class is tomorrow as well. 3) Tomorrow - Science Quiz on Trees and Forests (20 Questions) to cover some of the parts of the unit the current project does not cover Our School is accepting food donations (non-perishable/ dried or canned) for the Mayor's Food Drive. If you go shopping and see a deal on any items fitting the category it is greatly appreciated if you sent  them our way.  If every student only brings 1 can we will gather over 400 cans in total for Calgarians in  need.

 Dear Parents & Guardians, In weeks with 4 school days, I will update my blog at least twice.  On weeks with 5 school days there will be a minimum of three blog messages. In class, we are continuing our work around our school's Five Pillars of Care. Care for Self Care for Others Care for Place Care for Learning 5th Pillar (This month's theme is Respect). In groups, students have brainstormed examples for each of the Traits and created a Pillar for our DL -Board outside the classroom. This work is part of the Health and Life Skills curriculum. Each month students demonstrating the values will receive an award at our school assembly. For now,  these assemblies continue to be virtual only. In math, students wrote a short 30 questions math test named the MIPI. This test will determine their entry level of understanding for grade six.
