Hello Parents & Guardians, Important updates and reminders: No school this Friday, October 8th => System-wide PD-Day No school on Monday, October 11th => Thanksgiving Long Weekend Math Assessment on Decimals and Place Value was sent home today Science Quiz tomorrow on Analyzing tree cookies / Types and Parts of Trees Today in science every student was tasked to analyze and measure the growth of a tree cookie (round disk that shows the growth rings). Tree rings vary due to a multitude of factors such as, drought, competition for sunlight or water, fire or bite damage, infestations caused by insects, bacteria or fungi, etc. In class, we reviewed the causes and tried to piece together the growing conditions of each tree. This will be part of tomorrow's assessment. Dear Parent & Guardians, Today I will just send out a few reminders and some information about the Food Drive that our school is participating in. 1) Spelling Test on Math words tomorrow, Friday December 3rd. 2) Last day to work on the science project in class is tomorrow as well. 3) Tomorrow - Science Quiz on Trees and Forests (20 Questions) to cover some of the parts of the unit the current project does not cover Our School is accepting food donations (non-perishable/ dried or canned) for the Mayor's Food Drive. If you go shopping and see a deal on any items fitting the category it is greatly appreciated if you sent them our way. If every student only brings 1 can we will gather over 400 cans in total for Calgarians in need.
Dear Parents & Guardians, In weeks with 4 school days, I will update my blog at least twice. On weeks with 5 school days there will be a minimum of three blog messages. In class, we are continuing our work around our school's Five Pillars of Care. Care for Self Care for Others Care for Place Care for Learning 5th Pillar (This month's theme is Respect). In groups, students have brainstormed examples for each of the Traits and created a Pillar for our DL -Board outside the classroom. This work is part of the Health and Life Skills curriculum. Each month students demonstrating the values will receive an award at our school assembly. For now, these assemblies continue to be virtual only. In math, students wrote a short 30 questions math test named the MIPI. This test will determine their entry level of understanding for grade six.
