Welcome back to in-class teaching!
I was excited to see so many of our grade six students return healthy and well-rested from the extended Winter Break. In regards to the Omicron-variant, we have moved students back into rows and limit mask-breaks to outside and during P.E. Please check your emails frequently for updates on potential online learning.
Important Updates and Reminders:
- Please send extra masks with your child in case they get lost or wet
- New Spelling Words & Test on Friday (scroll down)
- Area / Perimeter & Volume Assessment this Friday
- Math (geometry) tests from before the break are being handed out
Our current learning in a nutshell:
LA - Novel Study / Reading Skills
Today we recaptured the events in the last few chapters before the break.
This week, students will read to summarize key events, compare and contrast information, as well as expand their vocabulary and write reading reflections. We are currently on page 187 and plan to read at least 1 chapter per day.
Math:
Today we reviewed area, perimeter and volume. I did notice that we need to practice these
concepts for a few more days and will have a potential quiz on Friday.
Students built their own rectangular prisms using blocks.
Science:
Students worked on their write-up for the space art they created before the break.
We also started graphing the day length and recorded observations about the moon cycle
Social Studies will be updated on my next blog post.
Our focus is the various types of municipalities in Alberta (urban, rural, indigenous)
