Below is a picture of some examples we have been practising in class. Sent home today: Spelling Test marks from last week. Science marks on unit test/ project/rubric & poster/3-D models Link to our music contribution:  https://youtu.be/ORCi4tyxKq0 Please scroll down for our Pillars Winners for December: Perimeter - Area - Volume (some with unknown side length) Social Studies & Science: Today we are continuing our Lesson on "Constellations" and the stories & legends that various cultures have created around the visible stars. So far we have introduced Orion (known by Indigenous People as Wesakechak), Draco & Pegasus, the Southern Cross . This Thursday! 7) Ms. Paul's Final Day will be this Thursday, December 16th. Our Learning in Class: Math: Today we officially introduced the concept of volume. Volume is a 3-D measurement of the space insides of a rectangular prism. Grade 6s will have to calculate the volume of 3-D shapes (cubes and rectangular prisms) and be able t

Dear Parents & Guardians, This blog entry focuses on the conclusion and marking of the Trees and Forest Unit. I have taken photographs of all projects that were handed in and completed by students. The project also has a written component  aptly named "write-up" that should tie the visuals and 3-D models together. Throughout the project I was very pleased with student participation and creativity. Marking: I am specifically looking at the depth of engagement with the topic. Could students demonstrate how photosynthesis is the foundation of the food web? Could they show the interconnections between trees as producers, habitat and resource for other organisms? Did they include various ways humans interact and use a forest ecosystem (conservation, forestry, recreation, indigenous ways)? Are all components labelled with specific terms? Are titles, arrows or other visual supports present? Please scroll down to see a range of projects that were created by students here at BHS.

Dear Parents & Guardians, There are only a few more days left before our students and teachers are heading into the 2-week Winter Break. The last day of school is Friday, December 17th. School resumes on January 4th. Important Reminders and Upcoming Events:  New Spelling words (LA novel study) - There will be a test on Friday, December 10th. Basic Facts / Computation Check-In this Thursday, December, 9th. New Topic in science - We are starting the Sky Science (Space Unit) tomorrow.  Math:  Our three-weekly math assessment is due one last time in 2021. We are practicing long division, multiplication and addition / subtraction skills daily this week during morning math. We of course will also apply these essential math skills in our measurement unit. For example when calculating the area of rectangles. Example: A rectangle has an area of 560 cm2. One side is 70 cm long. How long is the other side? 560cm 2 /  70cm =  8 cm In LA we are continuing to read chapter in our novel study and
Dear Parent & Guardians, Today I will just send out a few reminders and some information about the Food Drive that our school is participating in. 1) Spelling Test on Math words tomorrow, Friday December 3rd. 2) Last day to work on the science project in class is tomorrow as well. 3) Tomorrow - Science Quiz on Trees and Forests (20 Questions) to cover some of the parts of the unit the current project does not cover Our School is accepting food donations (non-perishable/ dried or canned) for the Mayor's Food Drive. If you go shopping and see a deal on any items fitting the category it is greatly appreciated if you sent  them our way.  If every student only brings 1 can we will gather over 400 cans in total for Calgarians in  need.

Dear Parents & Guardians, December has arrived and just in time we had our third fire drill in the snow. As we are heading into this last month of the year, we are also introducing our new Pillar of the month "Humility" - Our assembly will be in the last week of school December 13th-17th. Math - Measurement Unit In math, we are currently calculating the perimeter and area of polygons (triangles, quadrilaterals, squares, rectangles, L-shape etc.) Today we learnt to divide the shape into rectangles to be able to calculate the area of these more complex shapes. See the example below. LA/SCIENCE As part of our reading goal for the School Development Plan, students read and answered questions about a text on Trees and their function. We are using Bloom's Guided questioning to engage student to answer more complex and beyond textual questions.  Source: https://tips.uark.edu/using-blooms-taxonomy/ SCIENCE Only 2 more days of science project time: Useful websites for the Sc
