  Dear Parents & Guardians, Tomorrow is no school due to the Truth & Reconciliation Day. Today Beddington is participating in a number of Indigenous Learning activities to expand our understanding and reflect on the shared history. On Friday, October 1st is the Pillars of Care Assembly. As always there will be 5 students recognized for their exemplary achievement in on of the Care areas. Below are this month's winners from Room 15. Congratulations go to all of you and also the many others who were not chosen yet but also would have been a great candidate for an award. GRADE 6 Mr. Mueller Care for Others: Teagan has shown Care for Others in many ways this month. For instance, he helped new students access Mathletics and explained how to log into computers and Google Classroom. He also brought gym equipment out for recess and most importantly made sure it came back to class. Care for Learning: Kirill  has been engaged in all of the learning activities this month. Dear Parents & Guardians, I am away all week long this week and two substitute teachers are covering for me. I will continue to update you via the blog on our learning and events at school. Important Events & Updates 1) Tomorrow is the Terry Fox Run. Please ensure that your child is wearing good running shoes  tomorrow. Classes will run separately on the track during their gym time to practice social distancing.   Dear Parents & Guardians,  By now you are well aware of our Meet the Teacher this Thursday from 6-8pm. On Friday our amazing school secretary Mrs. Cummings has sent you the link to our two grade 6 sessions (one@ 6pm and one for 7@pm). Both sessions are identical, apart from the  Q&A part. Updates and Reminders & Events: - September 28th is our Terry Fox Run - October 1st will be the Pillars of Care assembly (virtually and students only) Our Learning in class: Today students were applying their decimal place value knowledge in solving basic math questions with decimals. We also reviewed the steps of decimal long multiplication: Examples:          56.9 x 2.      51.8 -12.09      6.082 + 1.97       In LA students learnt about the four basic elements of poems: Rhythm Imagery Sound Form We then looked closer at sound devices such as rhyme and started to create simple rhyming poems.   Dear Parents & Guardians, Reminders: - Meet the Teacher is taking place between 6-8 pm (note the change in time). There will be 2x 45min sessions and a short break before the second session begins at 7:00pm. - Friday, September 24th is a PD-Day. No school for students.  Welcome to Week 4 of our 2021/22 school year. By now we are fully immersed in our learning in all subject areas. My goal is to focus during each blog entry on 1-3 subject areas in more detail to keep parents informed about our units, SLOs (specific learning outcomes), assessments and key terms/ skills. Math: This week we are starting to dive into the realm of decimals. Decimals and fractions are closely related.  In grade 6 students need to be proficient in decimal math up to the thousandths place. 0.892 = 892/1000 Today we introduced: tenths - 0.1-0.9 hundredth 0.01- 0.99 LA: Every week, I plan to have several writing component.  Dear Parents & Guardians, Important updates and reminders: 1) Spelling Test on Literary Words tomorrow. The list was posted on Monday 2) Our class is participating in the Fall Equinox Teachings tomorrow . => see description below O'ko (Fall) Equinox Teachings | With saa'kokoto o'ko (fall) is an important time of gathering and preparation. There are many signs and teachings that come from the land during this time. Join saa'kokoto (Elder Randy Bottle) as he shares traditional Blackfoot teachings about the o'ko (fall) equinox.  A quick overview of our learning in class today: LA: - continuation of our literary device poster work - noun assessment (identify nouns in a text and differentiate between proper and common nouns) Math: - basic computation skill practice (division, multiplication) - place value tasks => sorting numbers  Social Studies: - preparation for the student vote tomorrow Science: - Forest exploration in Google classroom
  Dear Parents & Guardians, Please remember that we are having our virtual Meet the Teacher Meeting next Thursday evening. There will be 2 sessions between 5:00 and 7:00 pm.  You should receive an email shortly that explains how to sign up via PowerSchool . Our Learning in class: In LA, students chose a literary device (from our spelling list + extras) and are creating a poster to inform and teach it to their classmates.   Dear Parents & Guardians, We are heading into our 3rd week of teaching and the first full 5-day week. This means, that there will be a Spelling Test this Friday.  The spelling words list is posted below and was also send home with your children, together with a  No-excuse List. Remind them to share those resources with you.  Dear Parents & Guardians, In weeks with 4 school days, I will update my blog at least twice.  On weeks with 5 school days there will be a minimum of three blog messages. In class, we are continuing our work around our school's Five Pillars of Care. Care for Self Care for Others Care for Place Care for Learning 5th Pillar (This month's theme is Respect). In groups, students have brainstormed examples for each of the Traits and created a Pillar for our DL -Board outside the classroom. This work is part of the Health and Life Skills curriculum. Each month students demonstrating the values will receive an award at our school assembly. For now,  these assemblies continue to be virtual only. In math, students wrote a short 30 questions math test named the MIPI. This test will determine their entry level of understanding for grade six.  Dear Parents & Guardians, All forms that require a signature must be returned by Friday this week! Last week I handed out 2 forms: a) Classroom Contract b) Digital Citizenship Form. (for use of technology) Please sign and return those 2! Today these forms were send home: 1) Field Trip and Teacher Blog information 2) School Use of Personal Information  3) School Calendar 4) Demographic Verification + Consent & Medical Forms Forms 1-3 are for your information only. Form 4 must be signed and returned. Our Learning today: LA: Grammar review - What are nouns? Math: Overview of math concepts (e.g. fractions, graphs, geometry, decimals, patterns) Science: Introduction to Trees and Forests  Social/Health: What are our school's Pillars of Care?

  Dear Parents & Guardians, Important updates and reminders: > No school on Monday, September 6th (Labour Day) > Please sign and return the Classroom Contract & The Digital Citizenship Form. > Please send a book for reading to school until we can access our library. Today in class we had finished our name tags and worked on our mask art. The art projects is due on Tuesday for those who have not completed it, yet. We also did an initial spelling assessment yesterday and a basic math assessment today, to see where everyone is at after the long break. We will be doing a lot of marking together to learn from our own mistakes. Below are some examples of our mask art.

  Dear Parents, Guardians & Caregiver, It was great to get to meet my class for the first time this year. Thank you all for following our mask rules and sending snacks/ lunches.   Below are few reminders for the coming days Please send indoor shoes if your child did not do so already. We cannot allow black shoe soles and outdoor shoes on the gym floor. Ensure that your children have a water bottle which they can refill at the tab. Friday's are still early dismissal days. School ends at 12:00. There is no school on Monday, Sept. 7th (Labour Day). Some of our learning tasks in class: Review Covid protocols and the student handbook Playing Getting-to-Know games (2 Truth & 1 Lie) Mindfulness & Gym (compound games) Creating name tags Building drinking straw towers Here is an example of our schedule for this year.
