Good morning Room 15 Families! Please scroll down to all the way to read a message about options for grade7. I have previously sent you an update via school messenger on Tuesday. Our Walking Field Trip this afternoon is a go! The weather is perfect for our Sit Spot and Reflection activities. 1) Spelling Quiz tomorrow on Aerodynamics words 2) Pillars of Care Assembly in person but without guests for the 1st time since Feb. 2020. Here are our class winners for this month! The 5th Pillar this time was Reflection. GRADE 6 Mr. Mueller Care for Others - Angel -  Angel has been a great help translating instructions to a classmate who is new to BHS and also speaks Spanish. He supports his classmate getting used to our routines and explains many tasks to him. It is great to see him being such a wonderful support for others. Care for Learning - Hannah - Hanna really showed growth among many subject areas and has improved her understanding of social studies, science and spelling skills. She takes
 Dear Parents & Guardians, 1) Walking Field Trip On Thursday, April 28th, we will be going on our final walking field trip to Split-Rock / Confluence Park. Please see the attached pdf that outlines the purpose and learning intentions of the trip which I sent via school messenger. 2) Options for Grade 7 Next week, on May 4th, Sir John A Macdonald (SJAM) resource teachers will visit us and help our grade six students to select their options for grade 7. This will be done during school hours here at BHS. The options will be: Band, Intro Music, Construction, Computers, Drama, Art, Outdoor Ed, Foods, Design Studies, Leadership (may not be available for grade 7’s). Please have a talk with your child to rate your favorite option from 1st to 4th or 5th, Depending on the popularity, your child might not get to do their first or second choice in Term 1 of grade 7. 3) Science Experiments - Plastic Bags needed In the next few science lessons we are creating various devices that travel through

  Dear Parents & Guardians, In our final week of April, we are having quite a few upcoming events and assessments. Here is the overview: 1) Walking Field Trip to Split Rock on Thursday, April 28th. 2) Math Basic Facts/Computation Assessment on Thursday, as well. 3) Spelling Test - new words on Aerodynamics on Friday 4) Pillars of Care Assembly on Friday, too. Winners will be announced later this week. 1) On Thursday, the weather is looking promising for us to go on our final visit to Split Rock at Confluence Park. I will email out the field trip letter to you tomorrow. This is part of our Health & Wellness curriculum and Indigenous Learning 2) In math, we have started the new Patterns & Relations unit, today. Students will explore simple and multi-step patterns that increase or decrease. In grade 6, a focus is on being able to determine the pattern rule, complete input output machines and  deduct information from visual patterns.  To prepare our students for the PAT exam an
  Dear Parents & Guardians. 1) Tomorrow is our Math assessment on the Order of Operations. In class we reviewed the steps once more and practiced how to solve order of operation word problems. I will remind students to take unfinished practice sheets home for extra practise. In class, I am usually providing 15-30 min of practice time daily during which students work at their own speed and ability level. Afterwards, we always solve a number of problems together to provide direct feedback on tasks. 2) For the Grade 6 graduation, we would love to include your child's baby photo into our slideshow. If you wish, please email me one picture of your child during their early days. We will then contrast their past and present appearance during the graduation assembly. I have marked all picture prompt stories that were handed in on Thursday and am in the process of marking the late handed-in texts asap. In the next week, we will discuss, analyze and evaluate their importance for us and look at their historic development. Art: In class, we created a blended day & or night sky using oil pastels & wax crayons. In a second step students enhanced their art with silhouettes.  Tomorrow students are going to describe and self-critique their art, as well

Dear Parents Guardians, In Week 3 after the Spring Break, we are having a 4-day school week due to Good Friday being a non-instructional day. Also, next Monday, Easter Monday, is a day off for students. Important updates and reminders: 1) No school on Friday, April 15th and Monday, April 18th. 2) Tomorrow we are going to have a science check-in to assess your child's learning about the properties of air.  Today, we will review the concepts in class and fill out a concept map/ graphic organizer. 3) There will also be another reading assessment later this week (possibly Wednesday or Thursday). Our LA - reading assessments are a great way to prepare students for the PAT reading exam. We have been doing reading comprehension quizzes with Bloom's Questions since October. Each time we keep the same 6-question format. This round, we are also teaching a specific inferencing tool.  The is a snapshot of said tool.  Observe = Describe what you see/ read in a picture/text.   Dear Parents & Guardians, Today we had our integers assessment and I am pleased to announce that we had no fails and most students showed a beginning proficient level of understanding. An area for growth is adding and subtracting more challenging scenarios. -145 + 151         or     - 64 - -32 = +6                                 = -32    In LA, we continued to explore the structures and elements of news reports.   Dear Parents & Guardians, As mentioned last week, April-May-June is a busy time and this week's tasks, assessments and activities reflect that.  1) Social Studies assessments on Provincial Government this Friday, April 8th. 2) New Spelling words - based on key concepts of the social unit provincial government ( Test on Friday, as well ). Knowing the meaning of these words is key to be successful in the unit test.  3) Basic Computation 15 Questions assessment tomorrow, April 5th. 4) Integer Check-In - After teaching this concept for 7 days, our grade 6 team has decided to put student's knowledge through an easy test (on Thursday, April 7th). Art-Update Artist in Residence - We were fortunate to work with our artist in residence, Dean Stanton, today on a great Pop Art project. Each students has created their own square tile with colourful images, patterns which will be put together similar to a collage and assembled into a whole school piece. Math assessments We do the basi
