Good morning Room 15 Families!

Please scroll down to all the way to read a message about options for grade7.

I have previously sent you an update via school messenger on Tuesday.

Our Walking Field Trip this afternoon is a go! The weather is perfect for our Sit Spot and Reflection activities.

1) Spelling Quiz tomorrow on Aerodynamics words

2) Pillars of Care Assembly in person but without guests for the 1st time since Feb. 2020.

Here are our class winners for this month! The 5th Pillar this time was Reflection.

GRADE 6 Mr. Mueller

Care for Others - Angel -  Angel has been a great help translating instructions to a classmate

who is new to BHS and also speaks Spanish. He supports his classmate getting used to our

routines and explains many tasks to him. It is great to see him being such a wonderful support

for others.

Care for Learning - Hannah - Hanna really showed growth among many subject areas and has

improved her understanding of social studies, science and spelling skills. She takes fantastic notes

and uses them to study for tests and applies them in tasks. For example, she helped create a neat

and informative group poster on our provincial government.

Care for Place - Teagan - Congratulations go to Teagan for doing a great job at keeping his desk

space neat and doing chores around the classroom. He organizes his papers in a binder and always

finds worksheets and rubrics easily.  This month he also was a great helper with plugging in charger

cables for our laptop cart.

Care for Self - Raina - Raina has shown ‘Care for Self’ by making safe and healthy choices no matter

what activity we are currently doing in class. She also was able to improve her reading level and has

shown growth in our current math units, “Order of Operations & Integers”.

Keep up the great work, Raina!

Pillar of the Month: -  Paul - In our sharing/ appreciation circles, Paul always makes insightful comments and reflects on himself. For example, when talking about what one can do on Earth Day,

he came up with great ways to save energy, water and conserve these resources.

Therefore, he deserves the Pillar of the Month Award “Reflection.

Sincerely,

P. Mueller

Message from Ryan Bliss - Resource and Learning Leader at Sir John A Macdonald Jr. High.

Hello future SJAMers!

Over the next two weeks, staff from Sir John A. Macdonald School will be traveling to our Elementary feeder schools to assist the Grade 6s with their option selections.

Please look over the attached document with your child and decide what options they would like to take in Grade 7.  Students will get four options, two per semester, or 3 if one of their choices is Band as it’s a full year option.  If your child does not want Band for sure, please do not make that selection!  It is a priority so any students that select Band will be placed in it. If you think your child would like Band but wants to explore, please choose Music.

Students must make four selections AND two alternates in the event that we can’t place them in their first four choices due to class size restrictions.  If these choices are not made, we will make them for you and students might not like where they are placed so it’s very important to make all the selections. Please have a conversation with your child as to which options they would like to take.

It is important that we have selections chosen to ensure that we have accurate representation of students’ desires and can staff accordingly.  If a class has a low request number the option may not be offered.

In the event that your child is out of area and has been accepted to SJAM for Grade 7, we are not traveling to schools out of our designated area but we will enable the feature so that they can log into their PowerSchool account and do it from home.

If your child is pre-registered to attend a different junior high next year, please do the option selection anyway.  If by chance your situation changed and your child ends up coming to SJAM, we want those requests to be there.

The Power School Portal will be open from May 3rd to May 16th.  You will be able to see the options in the Power School Portal and be able to change a request until May 16th
