  Dear Parents & Guardians, 1) Spelling Test tomorrow on LA - Descriptive Words 2) Pillars of Care Assembly tomorrow at 8:30 am. 3) Last class time to work on the social studies "city project"  => Students can complete it over the long weekend. 4) Monday, January 31st is a PD-Day - No school for students. 5) New tasks were uploaded to Google Classroom (if your child is absent due to isolation you can access learning resources via their google account) Below, I am sharing a few announcements that may/ may only partially or may not all concern your child. 1) IPPs (Individual Program Plans) are being sent home with students on an IPP. Please return the last page after reviewing the document and signing it. 2) Students who are volunteering to start traffic patrol: Attention all patrollers, On Wednesday February 2 nd   you will be receiving patroller training in the gym from 8:30-9:30am.   Dear Parents & Guardians, Important updates and reminders: - Spelling Quiz this Friday on Narrative/ Descriptive words (see list on Monday's blog) - Social Studies city project is due on Friday - many students took their work home today to add to their city - Pillars of Care Assembly this Friday: Today I will announce the winners for this month's Pillars of Care Awards. Our class will have the honor of presenting in front of the whole school. Scroll down to see the winners and the reasons why they have been selected. GRADE 6 Mr. Mueller Care for Others: Tawkee has shown Care for Others in many ways this month. For instance, he helped new students access Mathletics and explained how to log into computers and Google Classroom. He also works well with his peers in group tasks.   Dear Parents & Guardians, This is going to be a busy week for our grade 6 students. Hence the long list of due dates and events: 1) Pillars of Care Assembly hosted by us on Friday.  I will announce our winners by Wednesday or Thursday. 2) Math computation test part 2 on Wednesday. Our class did an amazing job in our 15 question quiz. Students scored a class total of 12 out of 15 correct answers (80%). I am extremely proud of my students and the hard work they have been showing to build this competency. We will however have to do another one this week to make up for the lost time due to the extended Winter Break.  3) Social Studies: Our current city model and writing project will be due this Friday. Students are in the role of the local government and are creating a city that has many services for its citizens. This week the drawing part must be completed and also each service needs a description. See examples: Police Station: We have a police station in our city to keep everyone

  Dear Parents & Guardians, Please ensure to only send your child to school when they have no Covid-19 symptoms. I recommend using the home tests when they feel sick. Dear Parents & Guardians, As we are heading back into our second week after the Winter Break, I want to let you know about a drop in temperature tonight. For Tuesday, there is a high of -13 and lows in the -20 degrees Celsius. Please send your child appropriately dressed for the weather as we are going outside for 2 x 15 min  recesses if the temperature does not drop below -20 degrees Celsius with (including wind chill.) Math assessment on the basic 4 operations (We do this assessment every 3 weeks) on Thursday, January 20th.   Dear Parents & Guardians, We have made it through the first week of January. In class, we used the week to get back into our learning and work habits. LA: Spelling Quiz today => I sent the quiz home with students. MA: We did our 2nd check-in assessment on area, perimeter and volume. In Social Studies, students started to design their own city plan (2-D/ map). Students will receive about 30-45 minutes daily to add to their city. The goal is to build a municipality that provides essential services for their citizens. This is an interdisciplinary project with curricular learning outcomes in social studies, art and LA (as there will be a written component to explain the choices made and describe the city). Below is a list which is not exclusive but has *essential* elements.
  Dear Parents & Guardians, So far most of our staff and students are still in Good Health but as we see Covid-19 infection numbers rise, I am counting on your support to assess your child's health and readiness for school attendance on a daily basis. Important Updates and Reminders: 1. Spelling Test on Friday (Sky Science words) 2. Math - Geometry assessment on area, perimeter and volume (+ conversions) also this Friday In Math, we are reviewing and practicing volume, area and perimeter problems this week. We also reviewed multiplication, as you need it to determine the above mentioned quantities. 4.5 x 7 or 27x 42. In Social Studies, we spent the past 3 days researching the different types of municipal governments and the names for their leaders and councils. Did you know that the head of a rural municipality (county) is called a reeve. The head of a Metis FNA is titled chairperson, whereas Indigenous communities are being led by a chief.  Welcome back to in-class teaching! I was excited to see so many of our grade six students return healthy and well-rested from the extended Winter Break. In regards to the Omicron-variant, we have moved students back into rows and limit mask-breaks to outside and during P.E. Please check your emails frequently for updates on potential online learning. This week, students will read to summarize key events, compare and contrast information, as well as expand their vocabulary and write reading reflections. We are currently on page 187 and plan to read at least 1 chapter per day.

   Dear Parents & Guardians, I wish you and your families a healthy, peaceful and prosperous New Year.  As you have probably heard, the Minister of Education, Mrs. LaGrange, has announced an extension to the current Winter Break. School will most likely resume on January 10th.  Please check your email account registered with the CBE frequently for updates. If you wish for your child to use the extra time for learning, here are some links to resources we use in class.
