Dear Parents & Guardians, I am writing to let you know about a number of important pieces of information at this time of the year. LA Poetry Project Homework Today was the last time students had a chance to work on their poems and illustrations for this 2-week LA project. So far only ¼ of students have handed in. Please check-in with your son/daughter and set some time aside to complete it at home. For the most part it is now compiling the booklet and creating illustrations for an Art mark. I have printed the poems for almost all students yesterday and today in class. The project is due on Monday Nov. 15 th . Parent-Teacher Conferences In less than 2 weeks, I am hopeful to meet with all of you during our first round of Student-teacher conferences. They will take place November 25 th and 26 th .You should receive an email from our school to remind you to book them via CBE My Power School (link below) shortly. Dear Parents & Guardians, Upcoming events and reminders: Spelling Test on Social Words this Friday Social Studies Assessment on Decision-Making this Friday Halloween at BHS on Friday Pillars of Care Assembly hosted by our room We have started our poetry project today. Ask your children which types of poems they are planning on including in their presentation/ project. Here is a quick overview of sample poems we learnt about in class: Ryhming Couplet Tercet Quatrain Limerick Cinquain Diamante Haiku Senryu Concrete/shape Poem Acrostic Bio Poem Ballad (We learnt this one today in class) Blue poems must rhyme. Green poems count syllables or words. Example of a Limerick: There once was a very big star Who did't know where we are He shone very bright And casted his light But he was away way too far. In social studies, we reviewed the different ways to make decisions. VOTING - CONSESUS - REPRESENTATION. This will be part of the test on Friday.
Dear Parents & Guardians, Today we had our drumming celebration in the gym. It was great to hear all grades perform their beats & rhythms. Monday, June 23rd: Board Game Day Students are encouraged to bring a board or card game they would like to teach to their classmates. I am sending home the Alberta Health "Ask an Adult" note. This officially concludes our Human Sexuality unit. Tuesday, June 24th: Report Cards will go live on Powerschool for you to see Last day of class - We dismiss at 2:40 as usual. Final Pillars of Care Assembly For this final assembly everybody is invited to attend. I am sending home a note to the parents of the 5 winners for our class today. Please send a backpack or tote bag to school tomorrow or before the last day of school. We are doing a final desk clean and I am sending everything home. Have a great weekend!
