 Dear Parents & Guardians This is the third last week of school in 2021.  As it is one of the rare 5-day weeks, we are having another spelling test on Friday. This time the words related to our current math unit - MEASUREMENT. Please scroll down for the list.  This week's events: November's Spirit Day is tomorrow - The theme is CRAZY HAIR DAY!!! Spelling Test on Friday - December 3rd. Science Unit Quiz on Tress & Forests this Friday. Science Project on Trees and Forest are due on December 3rd. Our Learning in all subject areas: MATH: Today we reviewed how to create and calculate the perimeter of many common polygons. Some examples we worked on were, triangle, square, rectangle, hexagon, L-shaped hexagon. LA: Students practiced to apply purposeful questioning as a strategy during reading tasks. Dear Parents & Guardians, Thank you all for booking appointments for today's and tomorrow's Parent-Teacher Conferences. There is still a chance to do so, in case you want to book for Friday morning. Updates and Reminders Spelling Test results are being sent home today LA - marked Novel study check-in (is being sent home today) No school on Friday, November 26th Basic Operations / Computation 15 Qs assessment tomorrow (every 3-weeks). Our Pillars of Care Winners for November are posted below. LA: Work samples sent are being sent home. Please ask your child to show you their LA novel study check-in. There were 2 tasks that students had to complete and that we marked this week. A character tracker, as well as some reflect and connect comprehension questions about chapters 1-6. We have given students personalized feedback as well as a mark on each tasks from Level 1-4 (IPP or ADP = adapted /reduced work load). 1 - needs improvement - not meeting grade level expectations 2 - mee

  Dear Parents & Guardians, Important updates and reminders: Spelling Test tomorrow - social studies words (check my blog entry from Nov 15th for the list) Parent-Teacher Conferences this Thursday and Friday. Book your spot via MyCBE/Powerschool No school on Friday, November 26th Pillars of Care Assembly this Wednesday, virtually. Winners will be announced on my next blog. 3-weekly math check-in => scroll down for a picture of how we prepare students during morning math. LA: I have the pleasure to read your children's poems over the weekend and will give them personalized feedback in class. I will also share some of my observations with you during conferences. Don't forget to book your conference appointment with me if you have not done so already. If you need help, please email me and I can create the link for you and email it to you. Science: We finally started our final Trees and Forest Projects. In class students will have 8-9 hours to work on it. It is due by Friday
  Dear Parents & Guardians, The Spelling Test is being postponed to next week. We will do in on Tuesday. Parent-Teacher Conferences Today at 4pm you will be able to book a virtual appointment with me via TEAMs using your MyCBE account.  The conferences will be held on November 25th in the afternoon and on Friday, November 26th in the morning.  Our Learning in class today: LA - We continued reading our novel study REFUGEE and are now at chapter 6 (mind you the chapters are very short). Student are currently working on reflections and character descriptions in post-reading tasks. Social Studies: During our tech-time students explored and researched the different levels of government and the services they provide.   Dear Parents & Guardians, Winter Jackets: Our school is teaming up once more with the  Jacket Racket. Should you require a new warm winter jacket for your child, please email me or call our school with the  required size. We will then pass on this information to this amazing organization.  The deadline to submit the form for us is on November 26 th .  Math: This week is the Mathletics Numeracy Challenge. Please help us out and remind your child to access their account from home and work on some of the tasks I assigned them. In class students usually are provided with 2-3 times of 20 min work time per week.  I have also assigned some of the new unit tasks related to "Measurement." https://www.mathletics.com/ca/ LA/ Social Studies: As promised here are this week's spelling word lists.  For equity purposes there is a regular grade 6 and and adapted version (ADP) with a focus on the  "ie" spelling in common words.   Welcome back after an extended weekend for out students! Important updates and reminders: Ms. Paul - our student teacher from the University of Lethbridge has started her 5-weeks practicum with our grade 6 class. Next week on November 25th and 26th there will be Parent-Teacher Interviews. You will be able to book your appointment (virtual Teams Meeting) shortly after you receive an email from our school administration. The Poetry Booklets/ Projects are overdue - I will contact parents this week if your son/daughter needs to complete it during their own time. There will be a spelling test this week. The words will be poster here on this blog tomorrow. Our Learning in the major 4 subject areas: LA: Introduction to our novel study - Refugee by Alan Gratz Students engaged in a quick book exploration to learn about the structure and main characters in our novel.   Dear Parents & Guardians, I am writing to let you know about a number of important pieces of information at this time of the year. LA Poetry Project Homework Today was the last time students had a chance to work on their poems and illustrations for this 2-week LA project. So far only ¼ of students have handed in. Please check-in with your son/daughter and set some time aside to complete it at home. For the most part it is now compiling the booklet and creating illustrations for an Art mark. I have printed the poems for almost all students yesterday and today in class. The project is due on Monday Nov. 15 th . Parent-Teacher Conferences In less than 2 weeks, I am hopeful to meet with all of you during our first round of Student-teacher conferences. They will take place November 25 th  and 26 th .You should receive an email from our school to remind you to book them via CBE My Power School (link below) shortly.   November 8th  Dear Parents & Guardians, We are heading into a short week for students. Due to Remembrance Day on Thursday and a PD-Day on Friday, your children will enjoy an extra long 4-day weekend. Important updates and Reminders: November 10th - Virtual Remembrance Day Assembly for students  No school November 11th and 12th Spelling Test were sent home today. LA Poetry project is due this week (Nov 10th) Nov 15th - Our student teacher Miss Paul will join our class for 5 weeks. In the subject areas: LA: The poetry unit is coming to an end this week. Last week we already had a short check-in on  the students' knowledge of literary devices and the different types of poems. For an overview (rubric and tasks), please check last week's blog (Nov 2nd). The due date in class is tomorrow and students will get Wednesday to craft their booklet. Poetry Project Information and due date - November 9th Our Learning in a quick overview: Math - Long Division Practise involving whole and decimal numbers Science - Food Webs vocabulary and analyzing interconnections Social Studies - Intro to Local Government (mayor/ councillors / town hall meetings / voting) LA - Poetry As our poetry unit is coming to a close, students are demonstrating their understanding of the various styles of poems in a final project. I am providing in class time to work on improving previously written or creating new poems for about 60 min daily. Below is an overview of the required poems and a rubric that will be used to mark them.

  Dear Parents & Guardians, Teaching the day after Halloween is truly a spooky time. Jokes, aside, I am glad to have seen a decent attendance in class today and am hopeful to see students come to school at all times on time. Updates & Reminders for this Week: 1) November 3rd - Grade 6 Vaccinations 2) Spelling Test on Friday - scroll down for the words 3) Math Computation Testing this Thursday, Nov. 4th 1) In class we have been going over the presentation about the upcoming vaccination on Wednesday. Students learnt about Hepatitis B & HPV and the benefits of vaccinations in the past that helped eradicate and limited the spread of diseases (e.g. small pox, polio, tetanus, etc.) I encourage all students to have a proper breakfast that day and stay hydrated throughout the day. 2) This week we are starting our 3-weekly check-ins on math computation skills.
