Hello Parents & Guardians,

Important updates and reminders:

  • No school this Friday, October 8th => System-wide PD-Day
  • No school on Monday, October 11th => Thanksgiving Long Weekend
  • Math Assessment on Decimals and Place Value was sent home today
  • Science Quiz tomorrow on Analyzing tree cookies / Types and Parts of Trees

Today in science every student was tasked to analyze and measure the growth of a tree cookie (round disk that shows the growth rings).
Tree rings vary due to a multitude of factors such as, drought, competition for sunlight or water, fire or bite damage, infestations caused by insects, bacteria or fungi, etc.
In class, we reviewed the causes and tried to piece together the growing conditions of each tree.
This will be part of tomorrow's assessment.

In LA, we started a new project: Concrete Poetry!
Ask your child, which shape they have chosen and which words they want to use to convey their understanding.
I will be looking at how well students can include literary devices (e.g. word play, imagery, similes, alliterations, onomatopoeia) in the assessment of this project.

FYI - Tomorrow is our first session of ROBO Coding. This in-school experiences allows kids to learn
some of the basics of coding and solving problems => STEM education.
