Dear Parents & Guardians,

There are only a few more days left before our students and teachers are heading into the 2-week Winter Break. The last day of school is Friday, December 17th. School resumes on January 4th.

Important Reminders and Upcoming Events:

  1.  New Spelling words (LA novel study) - There will be a test on Friday, December 10th.
  2. Basic Facts / Computation Check-In this Thursday, December, 9th.
  3. New Topic in science - We are starting the Sky Science (Space Unit) tomorrow.

Math:
Our three-weekly math assessment is due one last time in 2021. We are practicing long division, multiplication and addition / subtraction skills daily this week during morning math.
We of course will also apply these essential math skills in our measurement unit. For example when calculating the area of rectangles.

Example:

A rectangle has an area of 560 cm2. One side is 70 cm long. How long is the other side?

560cm 2 /  70cm =  8 cm

In LA we are continuing to read chapter in our novel study and practice reading skills such as
  • summarizing main ideas
  • comparing and contrasting characters and events
  • making personal connections to the text
  • practicing reading fluency
  • expanding vocabulary
  • construct meaning of unfamiliar words / using contextual clues / rereading sentences

Science:

This week I will be posting pictures of the Forest Projects in our class and also show some outstanding projects from our fellow grade 6 grades in the building.

LA:
