Dear Parents & Guardians,


This blog entry focuses on the conclusion and marking of the Trees and Forest Unit.
I have taken photographs of all projects that were handed in and completed by students.
The project also has a written component  aptly named "write-up" that should tie the visuals and 3-D models together. Throughout the project I was very pleased with student participation and creativity.

Marking:
I am specifically looking at the depth of engagement with the topic.
Could students demonstrate how photosynthesis is the foundation of the food web?
Could they show the interconnections between trees as producers, habitat and resource for other organisms?
Did they include various ways humans interact and use a forest ecosystem (conservation, forestry, recreation, indigenous ways)?
Are all components labelled with specific terms? Are titles, arrows or other visual supports present?

  Dear Parent & Guardians, Today I will just send out a few reminders and some information about the Food Drive that our school is participating in. 1) Spelling Test on Math words tomorrow, Friday December 3rd. 2) Last day to work on the science project in class is tomorrow as well. 3) Tomorrow - Science Quiz on Trees and Forests (20 Questions) to cover some of the parts of the unit the current project does not cover Our School is accepting food donations (non-perishable/ dried or canned) for the Mayor's Food Drive. If you go shopping and see a deal on any items fitting the category it is greatly appreciated if you sent  them our way.  If every student only brings 1 can we will gather over 400 cans in total for Calgarians in  need.

  Dear Parents & Guardians, Updates and reminders: 1. Basic Computation Quiz tomorrow (every three weeks) 2. Science Presentations will be starting 3. Parent-Teacher Conferences this Thursday and Friday (morning) 4. No school for students on Friday 5. Jump-Rope-For-Heart Fundraiser Information 6. Updates on the story writing unit. (scroll down) As you know, we are having Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday and Friday. Please book an appointment time if you wish to receive an update on your child's learning. In class, we have started to revisit our IRIS goals which each student set in November. Students will be sharing them with you during the interview.
