Perimeter - Area - Volume (some with unknown side length)

Social Studies & Science:

Today we are continuing our Lesson on "Constellations" and the stories & legends that various cultures

have created around the visible stars. So far we have introduced Orion (known by Indigenous People as Wesakechak), Draco & Pegasus, the Southern Cross . Did you know that there are 88 constellations in the celestial sphere surrounding Earth

In LA we are reading and summarizing a few more chapters of our Novel Study - Refugee.

All of our main characters are currently in peril at sea trying to cross international waters to make it into:

the EU (Mahmoud and his Syrian family 2015)

the US (Isabel and her Cuban family in 1994)

Cuba (Joseph and his Jewish/German family in 1939)

Our Pillars of Care Winners for December:

GRADE 6 Mr. Mueller

Care for Others: Vincent - Kudos to Vincent’s continuous care for others.

He is always offering a helping hand and working well with his peers and table group.

For this reason, he is always chosen as a partner in group tasks or gym.

Care for Learning: Raina - In our new unit in math, geometry, she asked for more practice to

complete at home and enhance her understanding of area, perimeter and volume. She is also honest

when completing teacher-student check ins and advocates for herself by saying she needs more

practice. Keep up the care for learning, Raina!

Care for Place: Angel - Angel continuously shows care for place in our classroom by ensuring all of the class iPads

are charging at the end of the day. He also always keeps his work space clean and organized.

Well done, Angel!

Care for Self: Alia - Alia’s honesty when it comes to learning and what she can handle that day make

her an excellent example of what it means to prioritize yourself. She also managed to add more detail to

her written answers.

Care for Humility: Aiden Bu - In the past, Aiden has wanted to answer every question

in class but over the course of December, we have seen him become more respectful of his

classmates's thoughts and awaiting his turn. Aiden is very understanding of what it means to be a

team player now and understands that he is one of many student in a class of 22.

Care for Learning - Ms. Paul This nomination is a big thank you and well done to our practicum teacher in Room 15.

Miss Paul planned & led excellent lessons in LA for our novel study unit and engaged all students to

read aloud and actively participate in class discussions and writing activities. In social studies she

impressed us with her expertise on bylaws and local government. You will be dearly missed!

All the best for your future endeavours in education.
