Our Learning in class:

Today, students engaged in a variety of learning tasks and applied their knowledge of leaf shapes, margins and arrangement in a fun scavenger hunt around out school. It was impressive to see them collect almost all different types of leaves (needle leaves, scale-like leaves, as well as all the different broad leaves that grow on trees and shrubs).

In social studies, the first two groups performed their skits demonstrating the principles of equity and equality. One group portrayed a senior and a regular customer in a grocery store. The senior was given a discount, which shows equity. In another skit a customer was being discriminated by the shop employee due to his ethnicity and the police came and ensured equal treatment for all customers in Canada.

In math, students had a chance to catch up on their Mathletics tasks. I encourage you all to use this program at least 1-2 per week at home.

In LA, students brainstormed rhyming words for the 3 types of rhyming poems that we have learnt so far.

couplet
tercet
quatrain

Example of a quatrain poem:

A Goat in a Landfill

A goat was in a landfill
eating garbage and debris
and came across a movie;
a discarded DVD.

He chewed the case and cover
and the flavor made him smile.
He took the disc between his lips
and nibbled for a while.

He thought, “This film is brilliant;
full of action and suspense.
The story is exciting
and the fight scenes are intense.

“It’s got a lot of comedy,
a touch of sweet romance,
and music so inspiring
it makes me want to dance.”

He gnawed a little longer
through some drama and a chase,
and finished off the movie
with a grin upon his face.

He gulped the closing credits —
one more bite was all it took —
and thought, “That film was awesome
but I still preferred the book.”
